For Mozari Research Studio

In this studio, we were instructed to design a Virtual Reality learning experience to help the local refugee population in Salt Lake City feel more at home in a new space. Through user research, we found that refugees coming to Utah are incredibly diverse, but something most of them have in common is a general unfamiliarity with the outdoor resources Utah has to offer.

We focused on various levels of engagement and the uses most commonly employed in these spaces. Working with VR was an invigorating challenge and led us to explore new ways of relaying information in a 360-degree environment.

Designing the VR headset started with an effort to make something functional while being as simple as possible. Once we dialed down our final form, we reconnected the physical object with our digital learning experience by introducing materials that could be cycled back into the outdoor spaces our users have learned to explore.
